Heed the call.
For those times when we’ve thrown the gates wide, come straight here for news and updates on casting calls that are open to the public.
Open casting calls at our offices are relatively rare, unless we’re looking for something very specific. Tight turnarounds and rigorous quality standards typically mean there’s only time to see the most experienced performers, therefore the majority of our work goes through bona fide talent agencies (see our Submissions page for more details).
But when we do need to cast a wider net, here are three basic tips for answering an open casting call:
- Be professional. Our job is to find the best person for the part. Please, no rabid fans bent on causing a disturbance on set, or anyone who’s going to inundate us with multiple emails and phone calls. That type of behavior isn’t professional, and will get you noticed for all the wrong reasons.
- Fit the specs. Be the right age, ethnicity, and look. There’s a reason it’s all described in the casting call.
- Follow instructions precisely. If the instructions are to send an email with specific information, include all the requested info. Please don’t email every other person on the company roster. If the instructions are to attend an open casting call, be sure to show up at the correct date, time and location, and please bring anything you were asked to bring. Please don’t show up a day early. And if it says “no phone calls,” we really, really mean it.
All of this may seem obvious, but if hundreds of people fail to follow instructions, it prevents us from focusing on the work, and on the people who do follow instructions. Thanks in advance!
